West Haven residents with 3 forms of residency may pick up food once a month from WHEAT. Each resident chooses his or her food from the list of items available in the pantry that day. We distribute bags of non perishable food as well as fresh or frozen meat, poultry or fish, bread and dessert. We also give out fresh produce year round. Toiletries are available when donated.
WHEAT provides for special dietary needs and carries sugar free, low sodium and gluten free products. We have a nutritionist and dietician who offers classes and information for those who want to learn about creating healthy meals and how to adjust your diet if you have diabetes or heart disease.
** WHEAT reserves the right to refuse service and/or remove clients who are drunk, high, disruptive or abusive in any way. **
Yale New Haven Hospitals Project Mothercare clinic for women and children is located at the rear of our building. Although not a WHEAT program, we are happy to house their clinic so that families from the Greater New Haven area can come for physicals, pre natal and pediatric care. For more information, please call 203-931-4360.
WHEAT refers residents to other agencies for rent and utility assistance, other sources of food, as well as where to get clothing, diapers, furniture and the like.
If you have questions on our programs and services or would like more information, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 203-931-9877, Tuesday-Friday, 9:30am 4:30pm
